Clearfield County Crime Stoppers board member and Clearfield Area High School Assistant Vice-Principal Kevin Wallace develops Student Crime Stoppers Program for Clearfield County Crime Stoppers and area schools.
Student Crime Stoppers, or Scholastic Crime Stoppers type programs, have been around since 1983

Officer Larry Weida started the first Student Crime Stoppers program at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado.

This year, Clearfield Area Schools, will be the first school to experience and participate in Student Crime Stoppers of Clearfield County. We anticipate great successes and look forward to other schools in the county to join Student Crime Stoppers.

Why Student Crime Stoppers?

When you step forward and call 1-800-376-4700 or contact a teacher, you are taking control of your community and school. Crimes such as bullying, threatening, assault, theft, graffiti, vandalism, pulling fire alarms, weapons, drugs, etc. will be reduced by calling student Crime Stoppers at 1-800-376-4700. You will never have to identify yourself or testify in court. A cash reward may be issued pending an arrest or successful school conclusions.

Student Crime Stoppers is a pro-active program, which allows students to remain anonymous when they report a crime they have witnessed either at or outside school. It gives the caller an alternative to avoid any recognition or retaliation from suspects or contact with police or school officials.

Student Crime Stoppers target audiences with students approaching or above 12 years old, the age of criminal responsibility.

The benefits or operating a Student Crime Stopper program are numerous and include the following:

  • The opportunity for students to take charge of their own destiny;
  • The development of a closer working relationship among student, schools, and local police;
  • Deterrence of potential offenders resulting in less crime in schools;
  • Greater student participation in school life;
  • Greater student knowledge of the operational system of polining and the justice system;
  • Greater awareness of the community Crime Stoppers program among students.

The ultimate benefit of Student Crime Stoppers to all members of the school community is the resulting feeling of greater security in the knowledge something positive and successful is being done.
